On December 9, 2009, employees working at the Borough of Macungie voted overwhelmingly to accept a first-time three (3) year agreement bringing Local 773’s membership to nearly 4,300. These new members are employed in the Public Works Department as well as the Office Clerical Department. Seeing a need to secure what they had, the employees approached Local 773 for representation early in 2009. An election was held on February 24, 2009 where the employees voted strongly in favor of the Teamsters. These new members wasted no time in getting active. Before securing their first contract, members Mike Smith and Doris Horner were chosen by their peers to represent them both as Shop Stewards and also at the bargaining table. By spring time of 2009, Doris and Mike were already taking an affirmative role by attending the Local 773 Shop Steward Seminar. “The Teamsters have given us a commanding voice in the workplace; for our families, the community and the tax payers and for that I say: Thank You Teamsters!” said Mike Smith. Local 773 is proud to welcome these new members into our ever-growing family of members.
